MochaHost - Account Migration Policy
At MochaHost We offer 2 types of FREE account migration assistance:
- Automatic (supported currently only for cPanel, and Plesk control panels)
- Manual (via FTP/SFTP, restoring a backup/archive files, attaching a disk).
Please, note that not all account upgrades require migration (for example shared to shared upgrade does not require migration). The different scenarios and possible migration options are listed below.
It is crucial that you review the different scenarios and plan properly, in order to avoid down time and unplanned series of events.
Backups: We provide free migration assistance as a complimentary service, however we can not guarantee that your data will remain intact or everything will get transferred at 100% - recommend that you always have a fresh backup of your data before you request migration assistance.
Time: We can not guarantee time for completion of any migration since there are too many factors involved with the actual process, the number of sites, and size of your entire account as the main ones. We recommend that you plan properly any migration requests in order to minimize downtime or impact from downtime (such as DNS propagation), and allow adequate time for our team to complete the task from start to finish.
When Upgrading an existing account the following Upgrades scenarios and available data migration options are offered. If you don't see your current package listed here, please contact us so that we can verify what type of assistance we can offer for your case.
Linux Package Upgrades:
Shared accounts:
- Upgrading from a Linux Shared Account (SoHo/Business/Mocha, All WordPress, and all Easy Site Builder packages, as well as all shared reseller accounts) to a higher package within the same group (for example SoHo to Business, or WordPress Premium to WordPpress Advanced, etc) offers:
- Instant Resource & Features Upgrade
- NO need for account or server migration is required
- NO Downtime
- Upgrading from a Linux Shared Account (SoHo/Business/Mocha, All WordPress, and all Easy Site Builder packages, as well as all shared reseller accounts) to a Linux VPS or Cloud:
- Migration is required and we offer migration assistance only via our Automatic migration procedure which requires cPanel control panel. When purchasing your VPS, please make sure to purchase VPS with cPanel control panel which is available for packages VPS Perfetto-1 and higher, and offered for all Cloud servers.
- Downtime: with our Automatic migration, the downtime in most cases will be limited to the time required for DNS propagation / DNS record changes which will be required in order for your hosted domains to point to your new server (your domains will be assigned with a different IP addresses).
Shared JVM/Private JVM accounts:
- Upgrading from a Linux Private JVM package to a higher memory Linux Private JVM package offers:
- Instant Resource & Features Upgrade
- No need for account or server migration
- No Downtime (Except for restart of your JVM)
- Upgrading from a Linux shared account/shared JVM to a Linux Private JVM (Java) account:
- Migration to a different server is required due to the architectural differences in the 2 platforms. We offer migration assistance only via our Automatic migration procedure which for our shared and Linux Private JVM accounts is based of cPanel control panel.
- Note: The migration process does not cover issues related to the configuration of your Java Tomcat server, or any Java related settings that you may need to re-configure on your end, such as db connection strings, etc.
- Downtime: with our Automatic migration, the downtime in most cases will be limited to the time required for DNS propagation / DNS record changes which will be required in order for your hosted domains to point to your new server (your domains will be assigned different IP addresses). Please, plan time for re-configuration of your Tomcat, and any other settings associated with your applications.
- Upgrading from a Linux Private JVM (Java) to Java VPS or Java Cloud account:
- Migration is required. We offer migration assistance only via our Automatic migration procedure which for our Linux Private JVM to Java VPS/Cloud are based of cPanel migration capabilities.
- Note: The migration process does not cover issues related to the configuration of your Java Tomcat server, or any Java related settings that you may need to re-configure on your end.
- Note: Please, make sure to purchase either our Java VPS or Java Cloud servers, and not our generic VPS or generic Cloud packages – for which we will not be able to provide assistance and deploy the same software you currently have on your Private JVM account.
- Downtime: with our Automatic migration, the downtime in most cases will be limited to the time required for DNS propagation / DNS record changes which will be required in order for your hosted domains to point to your new server (your domains will be assigned different IP addresses). Please, plan time for re-configuration of your Tomcat, and any other settings associated with your applications.
Shared Reseller, WordPress, EasySiteBuilder accounts:
- Upgrading from a Linux shared account to a Linux Shared Reseller Account:
- Migration to a different server is required. We offer migration assistance only via our Automatic migration procedure which for our shared linux accounts is based of cPanel control panel.
- Note: The migration process does not cover issues related to the re-configuration of your sites or any other settings that may need to be fine tuned after account migration.
- Downtime: with our Automatic migration, the downtime in most cases will be limited to the time required for DNS propagation / DNS record changes which will be required in order for your hosted domains to point to your new server (your domains will be assigned different IP addresses).
- Upgrading from a Linux shared account: SoHo/Business/Mocha to any of our WordPress or EasySiteBuilder packages or vice versa:
- Migration to a different server is required. We offer migration assistance only via our Automatic migration procedure which for our shared linux accounts is based of cPanel control panel.
- Note: The migration process does not cover issues related to the re-configuration of your sites or any other settings that may need to be fine tuned after account migration.
- Downtime: with our Automatic migration, the downtime in most cases will be limited to the time required for DNS propagation / DNS record changes which will be required in order for your hosted domains to point to your new server (your domains will be assigned different IP addresses).
VPS & Cloud servers:
- Upgrading from existing Linux VPS to higher VPS package, or existing Linux Cloud Package to higher Linux Cloud package:
- Most of these package upgrades are instant for packages purchased after September of 2014. In most cases the upgrade will require a simple server reboot.
- In certain cases if you have purchased your VPS/Cloud before September of 2014, data & account migration might be required which involves:
- For Linux VPS - we may need to transfer your VPS to a different server, either by moving the entire VPS or migration of your accounts to a new server.
- For Linux Cloud - we may need to configure new server for you and transfer your accounts via the automatic cPanel or Plesk account migration policy.
- Once you submit your account upgrade/migration request our team will be able to advise you if we need to setup a new server for you and if data migration will be required, before we start with the entire process.
- Downtime: There might be an additional downtime that you will experience if we need change your server IP and reconfigure your DNS server or DNS records associated with any domains hosted with us.
- Upgrading from a Linux VPS to a Linux Cloud:
- Migration is required due to the 2 platforms being entirely different. We offer migration assistance only via our Automatic migration procedure which requires cPanel control panel or Plesk on the current Linux VPS server, as well as same control panel cPanel or Plesk on the new Cloud server. When purchasing your Cloud server, please make sure to purchase Cloud with the same control panel (cPanel or Plesk) which you currently have with your Linux VPS server.
- If you don't have a control panel on your current VPS server, we can offer you limited Manual migration assistance via SSH, or SFTP.
- Downtime: with our Automatic migration, the downtime in most cases will be limited to the time required for DNS propagation / DNS record changes which will be required in order for your hosted domains to point to your new server (your Cloud server will be assigned with a different IP address). With our Manual migration assistance the down time will depend on the type of accounts you are hosting, and number of sites you need to transfer over and re-configure.
Windows Package Upgrades:
Shared accounts:
- Upgrading from a Windows Shared Account (SoHo/Business/Mocha) to a Windows Shared Account (Business or Mocha) offers:
- Instant Resource & Features Upgrade
- NO need for account or server migration
- NO Downtime
- Upgrading from a Windows Shared Account (SoHo/Business/Mocha) to a Windows Shared Reseller account offers:
- Instant Resource & Features Upgrade
- NO need for account or server migration
- NO Downtime
- Upgrading from a Windows Shared Account or Windows Reseller Account to a Windows VPS or Cloud:
- Migration is required. We offer currently ONLY Manual migration assistance, such as copy your data from the shared/reseller account via FTP to your new server
- Note: There will be an additional need for you to re-configure all of your emails, database connections, and other account settings which currently are outside of our migration policy. Please, plan properly for this.
- Downtime: Since the process is not automatic, there will be downtime associated with your data migration, and any additional settings that for your sits/email accounts hosted. There might be an additional downtime that you will experience if we need change your DNS server or DNS records associated with any domains hosted with us.
VPS & Cloud servers:
- Upgrading Windows VPS package to a higher Windows VPS package or Windows Cloud or Upgrading Windows Cloud package to a higher Windows Cloud package.
- Most of these package upgrades are instant for packages purchased after September of 2014. In most cases the upgrade will require a simple server reboot.
- In certain cases if you have purchased your VPS/Cloud before September of 2014, data & account migration might be required which involves:
- Automatic migration - will be possible if you have Plesk control panel on your current server.
- Manual migration - will be required if you don't have a control panel or you have WSP panel installed. Migration of your data from your current VPS/Cloud server via FTP to your new server will be required. We can also shutdown your current server, and attach its drive to your new server (Plan for extra downtime).
- Note: There will be an additional need for you to re-configure all of your emails, database connections, and other account settings which currently are outside of our migration policy, and something you have to perform on your own.
- Once you submit your account upgrade/migration request our team will be able to advise you if we need to setup a new server for you and if data migration will be required, before we start with the entire process.
- Downtime: Since the process is not automatic, there will be downtime associated with your data migration, and any additional settings that for your sits/email accounts hosted. There might be an additional downtime that you will experience if we need change your DNS server or DNS records associated with any domains hosted with us.
